Artist Statement

I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil—art was my first language! As a child, I found refuge from the chaos of three younger brothers by sketching whatever came to mind. That love only deepened as I grew, leading me to study painting and graphic design in college and spend 15 years as a graphic designer before stepping into the world of teaching. Today, my art reflects a graphic quality that studies light, shadow, and shape.

Many of my paintings are inspired by photos from hikes and travels, especially in the stunning Rocky Mountain National Park—right in my backyard. Through my work, I hope to stir a sense of wonder and nostalgia, and gently remind people to unplug and step outside into the quiet beauty of the natural world.

I’m always exploring—trying new techniques, styles, and mediums—but I’m especially drawn to my roots in American abstract and expressionist traditions. My art is ever evolving, just like the landscapes and stories that inspire it.
